How to Make An Aperol Spritz

How to Make An Aperol Spritz

December is here, but you wouldn’t really know it by the temperature outside. I live in Austin, which means that most of the time it still feels like summer in the “winter”. That makes it a bit hard to transition into winter clothes, food, and drinks. I decided to take one of my favorite summertime drinks, and make it festive for the holidays!

Aperol Spritz is, hands down, my favorite drink. It’s refreshing, light, and tastes delicious. The drink originated in Italy, and is actually the national drink of Italy. It’s typically more of a summery drink, but I can honestly drink it anytime of the year. The key ingredient is Aperol, an Italian apéritif with balanced flavor notes of sweet and bitter orange (it’s made of of gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona, among other ingredients). I’ve also included a way to change up the recipe to make it more ‘winter-y’. I plan on making it for my family at Christmas - it’s sure to be a hit at any holiday party! Check out the recipe below and get your spritz on.

  • aperol

  • ice

  • prosecco

  • sparkling water

  • orange wedge

  • *for the holiday version: cranberry juice + rosemary sprig (this isn’t part of a traditional Aperol Spritz, but adding these ingredients makes it instantly festive)

How to Make It

  1. Add ice to a wine glass (or glass of your choice).

  2. Pour in about 3 ounces of prosecco.

  3. Add 2 ounces of Aperol.

  4. Pour in 1-2 ounces of sparkling water.

  5. Throw in an orange wedge for garnish & taste.

  6. *For the holiday version: Add in 1 ounce of cranberry juice & a sprig of rosemary.
