How to Do a Staycation in Austin

How to Do a Staycation in Austin

Staycation's are highly underrated...but they're a really great way to have a peaceful weekend (or even one night) on a whim without worrying about extensive travel costs and long plane rides. I've always loved hotels - while on vacation when I was really young, I distinctly remember asking my parents if we could move into the hotel we were staying at (LOL). There's something about the relaxed and free-spirited environment that draws me in...I'm also just a little boujee, what can I say?. Luckily, Austin has some pretty sweet hotels to stay in that will make you feel like a queen (or king). There are so many great hotel options, but one of my favorite spots is South Congress Hotel. Whether I'm working in their Mañana coffee shop, having brunch at Cafe No Se, eating dinner at Central Standard, or grabbing happy hour in the lobby bar...I always have an amazing time. So when it comes to deciding on a place to staycation in Austin, South Congress Hotel is my go-to. The atmosphere is relaxing and low-key, while also being modern and gorgeous. I did a little staycation at South Congress Hotel a few weeks ago, and left feeling so rejuvenated. Read on to discover a few staycation tips!

Local Rates

Did you know that most hotels offer discounts for local or Texas residents?! You can also get discounts depending on your insurance company. For example, a few hotels offer discounts if I mention that I have an AAA membership. It never hurts to ask!

Arrive Early

When it comes to staycations, you want to make sure that you maximize your time and get the most out of your stay. Ask for an early check-in, so you can kick your feet back and start relaxing ASAP. If they don't allow for early check-in, you can still arrive early (since it's a staycation, you'll likely just have one small bag). Go scope out the pool or grab a drink until your room is ready! Also, ask for a late check-out the next day as well.

B.Y.O.B

Alcohol is pricey at hotels and can definitely add up quickly. We brought our own wine + tequila and margarita mix to make cocktails in the room! Ask the front desk for ice when you check in, and you just saved yourself a pretty penny. ;)

Soak It Up

Get a room with a bathtub if you can! Being able to soak in a tub will make your staycation feel that much more luxurious and relaxing. Also, take advantage of the pool while you're there (if the weather is good). I love South Congress Hotel's pool - they also have a really delicious drink + food menu for the pool. Order a Turmeric Piña Colada and let your worries wash away.

Eat Well

Part of a staycation means enjoying yourself and indulging a little bit. Make reservations at one of the surrounding restaurants (Vespaio has some of the best Italian food in Austin & is right across the street from South Congress Hotel), or eat at one of the hotels restaurants. South Congress Hotel has lots of choices - make reservations at the intimate Otoko or enjoy dinner at Central Standard.

Wake Up Right

I don't know about you, but I like my coffee right when I wake up. Call room service the night before, and request coffee (and pastries) to be delivered to your room at a specific time. That way, you can wake up slowly while being caffeinated.
