Products I Love and Use by The Ordinary

I was hearing so much about The Ordinary skincare products, but was super reluctant to try them because the prices seemed too good to be true (everything is under $10). I’ve had bad experiences with trying new skincare, and I was nervous to f*ck my skin up. However, after doing TONS of research about the products and reading countless articles, I decided to give them a try. AAAANNNDDD…the verdict was love at first serum. After the first day of using the products, I noticed improvement on my skin, and it just kept getting better.

I wanted to give a little breakdown of the products I chose, which ones are working, and why I love them. Read on below to check out my faves and the different products I use in the morning and evening.

Morning Products

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

After I wash and tone my face in the morning, this is the first serum I use. I LOVE this one because it targets all of my problem areas. It’s a miracle serum.

What it does:

  • Improve the look of acne

  • Shrinks enlarged pores

  • Balances oil production

  • Promotes clearer, brighter, and smoother skin

Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

This is the only spot treatment serum you’ll ever need. It works wonders without drying out or irritating your skin. Salicylic acid is a boss bitch because it exfoliates deep inside the walls of your pores to combat acne, oily skin, and blemishes! So it’s not just masking the problem, but actually fixing it.

What it does:

  • Helps with skin texture and visible clarity with regular use

  • Exfoliates dead skin to unclog pores and clear congestion

  • Soothing and anti-inflammatory

Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

I’m obsessed with this product - it’s a lightweight cream-gel and is the perfect product to use before makeup. On days when I’m not doing anything too extra it also doubles as a primer.

  • Brightens the skin

  • Reduces the look of blemishes

  • Evens out skin tone and texture

  • It also fades hyperpigmentation & reduces redness associated with rosacea

High-Adherence Silicone Primer

I use this as my primer for days when I’m wearing makeup. It helps my makeup stay on longer - it can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that leaves a matte finish.

What it does:

  • Reduces the look of pores

  • Decreases the look of fine lines

  • Blurs imperfections & uneven texture

Serum Foundation

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…The Ordinary decides to go and make a serum foundation. This stuff is bliss for you skin, specially for those who hate the feel of having makeup on (which is…everyone, right?). It’s a medium coverage foundation with the lightweight feel of a serum. YAZ PLZ. It offers buildable, natural-looking coverage with a semi-matte finish.

What it does:

  • Covers & diffuses uneven skin tone with a rich, highly saturated effect

  • Buildable, natural-looking coverage

  • Semi-matte finish

Evening Products

Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

After I wash my face, I apply this glycolic acid toning solution. This toner is gentle but also packs a powerful bunch. It contains: glycolic acid - an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the surface of the skin, Tasmanian Pepperberry - a botanical extract that reduces the irritation associated with acid use, & aloe vera + ginseng - botanical extracts with soothing and radiance-boosting benefits.

What it does:

  • Exfoliates the skin

  • Improves the look of uneven tone and texture

  • Soothes & brightens

Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion

Similar to retinol, this lightweight serum is an advanced, non-irritating retinoid complex in a squalene base. I like it better than retinol because it’s less harsh. After I wash and tone my face, I put a small amount of this product on. I know some people that only use retinol products a few times a week, but this one is gentle & doesn’t irritate my skin at all. Make sure you’re using a sunscreen during the day when using a retinoid or retinol product!

What it does:

  • Reduces the signs of aging without irritation

  • Diminishes the look of wrinkles and fine lines

  • Brightens dark spots & hyperpigmentation

  • Smooths & refines skin texture

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

This serum is the third step in my evening routine. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that can attract up to 1000x its weight in water, so it’s super hydrating for your skin without feeling heavy at all.

What it does:

  • Enhances hydration

  • Gives skin a smooth & supple feel

zb_p-9.jpg

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

This product is NOT for everyday use - I use it once a week. It’s a water-based exfoliating mask with alpha and beta hydroxy acids, and makes you look pretty creepy with it on (the color kind of looks likeeee blood?).

What it does:

  • Exfoliates at multiple levels in the skin

  • Fights acne

  • Restores an even, radiant tone

  • Brightens & smoothes

I know this might seem like A LOT of products, but it doesn’t feel like I’m putting too much on my skin. I’ve also been doing this routine for a few months now, and my skin is improving so much! The Ordinary’s products are super lightweight and not too heavy at all. Keep in mind that my skin type is combination, so if you have dry skin I would recommend looking at their other products (they have tons).
